Question / Answer

  • At the time, Home Church was just establishing its social justice activity and there were a few charities that aligned with our hearts. One of our congregants approached the leadership and happened to work for World Vision.
After taking us through how they operate and their reach, we felt very passionate to get involved. Our pastor's felt excited about their 'Chosen' programme, where children choose their sponsor families instead of the other way around.
Our Pastor's had a word from God to 'sow' and the fact that by sponsoring a child you actually pour support into the entire community supported this calling.

This was also due to Pastor's focus on families and children, believing in empowerment of the next generation.

  • We partner with Pajule, a village in Uganda and have completed our first Chosen event at Home in March 2023. As a church, youth and kids we were chosen by three children from the community and for every child sponsored through World Vision, four more in the community will benefit.

We have another 5 people/families signed up waiting to be chosen.

Our families Pastor Ernest visited the community later on in 2023.

  • We plan to run campaigns within the church to support and communicate with the sponsor children and community, especially through the kids church and youth. We also plan to run some fundraising events to send further support.

In the near future we will be running another Chosen event and also plan to return to the community.

We have also sent funding to World Vision for their emergency response in Ukraine.

As a relatively young church, we are working to ensure that social justice becomes a part of the culture here at Home and not just a tick box exercise. We want it to be a strong expression of our faith internationally as well as within our local community. We strongly believe that social justice is of huge importance to God and we want our church to grow with that at the forefront of everything we do. To serve is to love.

There are also challenges that WV run to involve the youth and we are currently looking at how we can incorporate this into our future plans.
